S&S UK announce exclusive opportunity for authors of colour
Simon & Schuster UK are launching an opportunity that’s exclusively open to un-agented, currently not under contract fiction writers of colour. The winner will receive a two-book UK publishing contract with S&S UK with a six-figure advance.
The potential prize winner will be selected by the Adult Fiction editorial team at Simon & Schuster UK, Silé Edwards, Literary Agent at Andrew Nurnberg Associates, and Nancy Adimora, founder of OtherStories, based on their assessment of the work’s quality and the author’s potential. Initial evaluations will also be made from readers drawn across S&S UK, including members of its Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Council. The final winner will be selected by an independent judge.
Entrants must be able to qualify themselves as coming from a minority ethnic background. S&S UK reserves the right not to pick a winner if all the entry requirements and all the winning criteria (including the Guidelines and Restrictions and/or the Judging Criteria) are not met. The winner must enter into a contract with S&S UK to receive the prize.
Submissions will be open for three months, and authors are required to share three chapters of their novel along with a synopsis. Long-listed authors will be given the opportunity to meet with the publishing team at S&S UK including Molly Crawford, Editorial Director.
Whilst S&S UK continues to seek works from all authors, this competition is designed to offer an exclusive opportunity to writers of colour, who are particularly underrepresented in commercial fiction publishing.
