Simon & Schuster UK Environmental Policy

Our Mission

Simon & Schuster UK recognises our environmental and ethical responsibilities and we are committed to safeguarding a healthy and sustainable environment for future generations, as well as ensuring human rights violations do not exist within our supply chains.

We recognise the importance of these issues for our authors, customers, and staff, and our approach is influenced by their high expectations.

Our mission is to consistently conduct our business in a socially, ethically and environmentally responsible manner.

Partnerships and Collaboration

Simon & Schuster UK are a strong believer in collaboration to drive change, especially with our peers, across the publishing sector. Together, we are stronger and this is especially so when it comes to addressing impacts – both social and environmental – across our collective supply chain.

We are proud to be part of the following collaborative initiatives:

Book Chain Project

We are a founding participant of the Book Chain Project, a collaboration of over 25 publishers from across the globe that have come together to build better supply chains for the publishing sector, from the forest, to the paper mill, through to the printer.

The Book Chain Project engages directly with the paper mills and printers that supply to the sector, building capacity and gathering data: from forest source data, to environmental impacts and labour standards. We use the Book Chain Project to support informed decisions and manage all three impact areas.

Publishing Declares

We were an early signatory of Publishing Declares, a pledge by the publishing sector and supply chain partners. The pledge sets out our collective commitments: to limit global warming to 1.5C by setting ambitious targets; to protect nature and biodiversity by working with supply chain partners to use sustainable materials and processes; to strengthen partnerships in the pursuit of these commitments; and to educate and advocate for sustainability.

Publishers Association Sustainability Taskforce

We are a member of the Publishers Association Sustainability Taskforce. Meetings are quarterly discussion-based forums where publisher representatives discuss sustainability initiatives, share industry updates and hear from guest speakers.
