About The Author

Alex E. Chávez is the Nancy O'Neill Associate Professor of Anthropology and a faculty fellow of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of the award-winning book Sounds of Crossing: Music, Migration, and the Aural Poetics of Huapango Arribeño and the producer of the Smithsonian Folkways album Serrano de Corázon.
