In medieval Japan, eight-year-old Hojo Tokiyuki is the heir to the Kamakura shogunate. But the Hojo clan is in decline, and Tokiyuki’s peaceful days of playing hide-and-seek with his teachers come to an abrupt end when his clan is betrayed from within. The lone survivor of his family, Tokiyuki is the rightful heir to the throne, but to take it back, he’ll have to do what he does best—run away!

Factional strife within the Ashikaga clan is boiling over. Although Takauji seems ready to retire and leave things to his successors, it soon becomes clear he still has a firm grip on power. Shizuku believes Takauji has become more godlike than ever, draining power from all around the world and causing even more death and destruction. To defeat Takauji now, Tokiyuki and his friends and allies will have to defeat the demon inside him, but first, they must find a way to draw the evil entity out into the open.
