Sophie's Masterpiece is taken from personal experiance when, as a young woman, she lived in a boarding house and met a young mother who couldn't afford to buy her baby a blanket. Eileen Spinelli lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania with her husband, author Jerry Spinelli.
